Resident Celebrates 97th Birthday at Mayberry Gardens

Recently, Jean Pierz celebrated her 97th birthday at Mayberry Gardens and marked her third year of being a member of the Mayberry Community.  We are so blessed to have Jean as part of our community.

Here is a short bio of her written by her daughter Nancy:

Jean was born and raised in Chicago’s “Back of the Yards” neighborhood. She met the love of her life while working at RR Donnelley in 1939 when they were celebrating their birthdays with friends.   They were married in 1940 and raised Dennis and Nancy in the Village of Lansing, Illinois, south of Chicago.

In 1967, they moved to Florida to get away from winter. Nancy and family followed in 1971, and two more grandchildren were born in Florida. After retirement, they moved to Ingram, Texas. Richard died suddenly in 1987 and Jean moved north to Dallas to live with her daughter, Nancy. Jean always loves  annual vacations—especially the ones to Las Vegas. She also loves to attend concerts; her favorite was seeing Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis in Dallas.

Jean has 6 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 1 great, great grandchild.

    Cake Pops

Do you know what cake pops are? Neither do I, but our residents at Mayberry Gardens do now. Special thanks to the family members of Lou for all their help and coming out to volunteer. The residents loved decorating the cake pops but enjoyed eating them much more.

    Caricatures

Today we had a caricature artist Steve Leach come to each home and draw caricatures of our residents. Our residents and staff had many laughs as we discovered what we would look like in a cartoon. Steve did a great job. You can see his artist profile and work he has done at www.steveleach.com
